Main Street has the Technical Know-How:
Main Street Point Pleasant is happy to announce that we are now offering Technical Preservation Services on an as-available basis.
Our Executive Director, Christopher Rizer, holds a B.A. in History from West Virginia’s Shepherd University and an M.S. in Historic Preservation from the University of Vermont and at various points in his career has worked closely with the National Park Service at both Cane River Creole and Harpers Ferry National Historical Parks, the Vermont Historic Preservation Division, Preservation Trust of Vermont, Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, and other similar organization up and down the East Coast. Now home, that background can be put to work here in Mason County. Whether you would like your home listed on the prestigious National Register of Historic Places, are considering renovating a commercial property, need help searching or applying for grants, or simply want to know a bit more about your property, we have something for everybody. |
Conservation AssessmentsConservation Assessments are often the starting point for many restoration and preservation projects. This type of report looks and the history and condition of a building, identifies problems, and offers alternative solutions.

Deed Chains & HistoriesSimply want to know more about your home or building? Historical research is one of our specialties, and you never know what we'll find! Maybe your home is much older than it looks, was once owned by someone important, or was part of the war effort.
Design AssistanceWant to restore your building or home but aren't sure where to start, how you want it to look, or which designs are correct for the time period or style? In partnership with Main Street West Virginia, our architects can design a facade that is both stunningly gorgeous and historically accurate.
Grant Application AssistanceApplying for a grant for your business or historic building? Much of our work is grant-writing, and we would be more than happy to help you through the process.
Historic Landmark CommissionAny project in the downtown historic district must follow HLC guidelines. As Main Street helped design those guidelines, we can provide advice and assistance to make the process smoother.
Historic Tax CreditsIn West Virginia, projects that renovate a historic commercial building can receive a 20% federal and 25% state tax credit, and residential buildings can receive a 20% state tax credit. The application is lengthy and highly technical, but we are here to help.
